A Cathay Pacific flight to Penang, Malaysia, has returned to Hong Kong over concern about a strange smell in the cabin. No injuries were reported.
Cathay said there was a report of strange odor coming from the cabin of flight CX633 after it departed at 8.15 am, and the captain decided to return to the Hong Kong International Airport according to the safety guidelines. The plane landed safely at around 8.53 am, and no injuries were reported.
The flight giant said it will thoroughly check the concerned A330 aircraft.
Another flight was rearranged for the affected passengers, departing at around 12.30 pm. The company expressed its apologies to the passenger.
Airport Authority Hong Kong said it received a report of suspected cabin smoke from CX633 at around 8.40 am after the flight departed, and the airport operations have not been affected.
