It was learned that at around 12.50 pm, a person had entered the East Rail Line Fanling Station track area, leading to the suspension of the services.
The police and firefighters were alerted to the scene and found the man in the tracks in the direction of Admiralty.
He was confirmed to have been struck by the train and run over.
Rescuers managed to free the victim, but he was certified dead on-site, and his body was later carried to the platform.
Trains from Admiralty and Tai Wo operated at 15-minute intervals, while trains from Sheung Shui to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau operated at 10-minute and 20-minute intervals, respectively.
Trains from Tai Wo to Sheung Shui were halted entirely due to the incident.
Free shuttle bus services have been arranged for the passengers, MTR added. Passengers were also urged to consider taking other transport.
The service gradually resumed about an hour after the incident.
