Over 4,000 fans were attracted to the Light Rail Depot this morning as the MTR Corporation celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Light Rail by holding an open day.
The Depot Open Day invited the public to learn about its operations and deepen their understanding of Light Rail as it has served in the New Territories Northwest for over three decades.
The first-ever open exhibition of Light Rail vehicles from Phase 1 (the 35th Anniversary Retro-themed Light Rail Vehicle) to Phase 5 headlined the event, providing photo opportunities to all rail fanatics.
Many fans arrived at the depot before 10 am, while various lawmakers from the districts in the New Territories were also seen at the Open Day.
There were staff members in the depot giving out souvenirs and stalls for visitors to shop and play games at.
A fan surnamed To, who came with two light rail models, said the light rail is an important part of the city's railroad development and worth learning about its history.
A Tuen Mun resident surnamed Au, dressing in a suit, stated that the formal wear aimed to pay his respect to the trains that have been providing Hongkongers with invaluable memories.
The depot open day is divided into six sessions with participant limitations, as the depot is still in service.
