A couple burned charcoal in a Cheung Chau motel on Friday afternoon, leaving a 40-year-old woman dead. The 46-year-old boyfriend remained conscious and was later arrested for possessing ketamine.
The motel is Bela Vista Villa, located on Cheung Chau Beach Road. A 60-year-old staffer named Cheung reported to police around 12.30 pm yesterday and said she found a couple collapsed in one of the rooms.
Paramedics and police soon arrived and found the woman named Hui had fallen into a coma, while the man named Wong remained conscious. Both were sent to St. John Hospital, and Hui was eventually pronounced dead.
Police found no suicide note in the room, and the cause of death has yet to be confirmed, pending an autopsy. It was understood that Hui committed suicide because of financial troubles and relationship issues.
Police further found a small amount of ketamine in the room and some burned charcoal on the balcony.
After an investigation, police believed Cheung had moved the burned charcoal out of the room and told officers there wasn’t any. Cheung was then arrested for misleading the police. On the other hand, Wong was arrested for possessing dangerous drugs.
Police listed the case as suicide, attempted suicide, drug possession, and misleading police. The case was then passed to the Marine Regional Crime Squad.
