Henderson Land Development has announced the official opening of a new temporary pedestrian passageway at Central Yards, its landmark project on the New Central Harbourfront.
Slated to open on Thursday (Feb 19) — coinciding with the third day of Chinese New Year — the upgraded walkway will replace the existing footbridge, which will be permanently closed and subsequently dismantled.
Strategically located next to the current footbridge, the new passageway offers a seamless connection between ifc mall and the Central Terminal Building. Commuters and visitors can expect a comfortable, 24-hour air-conditioned environment adorned with artistic elements.
The section near Central Pier boasts a semi-open design, allowing pedestrians to enjoy sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and the surrounding skyline.
The development is part of the broader vision for Central Yards, which aims to become a global harbourfront icon inspired by the concept of “The Bridge.”
After the first phase of the Central Yards shopping mall opens, the temporary passageway will make way for a vibrant, multi-functional green platform, further improving access between the Central Harbourfront and ifc mall.
The ambitious Central Yards project will also feature expansive public green spaces and is expected to top out its first phase in the second quarter of this year, with an opening planned for 2027.
The second phase is scheduled for completion in 2032, promising to transform Central into an even more dynamic and globally connected district.
