A Lunar New Year fireworks display sponsored exclusively by the Hong Kong Jockey Club will light up Victoria Harbour on the second day of the Lunar New Year, featuring more than 31,000 fireworks blended with horse-themed imagery and auspicious symbols.
The fireworks show will take place at 8pm on February 18, the second day of the Lunar New Year, (under the theme “Galloping Toward Success, Shining Over Hong Kong.”) Lasting 23 minutes, the display will comprise eight scenes and release a total of 31,888 fireworks, symbolizing prosperity, good fortune, and success in the Year of the Horse.
The event is coordinated by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and is being sponsored for the first time by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The total budget for the fireworks display exceeds HK$19 million.
In addition to the fireworks show, the Jockey Club will take part in the Lunar New Year International Chinese New Year Night Parade on the first day of the Lunar New Year. It will also stage a Lunar New Year race meeting at Sha Tin Racecourse on the third day of the festive period.
The Jockey Club is also supporting drone light shows in Conghua of Guangzhou, and Shanghai to mark the arrival of the Year of the Horse.
Jockey Club Chief Executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said horse racing embodies Hong Kong’s spirit of perseverance and resilience, adding that the sport has long contributed to the city’s economic and social development. He said the Year of the Horse holds special significance for the club, which will roll out a series of celebratory events throughout the year.

Among the highlights is the Hong Kong International Horse Show, which will be held over three consecutive days starting January 30 at AsiaWorld-Expo. In September, a European large-scale equestrian production, Cavalluna, will make its debut in Hong Kong at the Kai Tak Sports Park.
