Basketball hoop collapses on teen in To Kwa Wan playground

A teenage boy was injured when a basketball hoop collapsed on him at a To Kwa Wan playground on Sunday night.

Police were called around 10pm to Kau Pui Lung Road Playground after the structure fell onto the boy while he was playing. He suffered hand and leg injuries but remained conscious.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Two teens were reportedly playing when the hoop, which had appeared tilted, suddenly toppled forward. The two support legs were broken, possibly due to wear and tear.

Police closed the basketball court and suspended use of the other hoop pending checks. They notified the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to inspect the facilities.
