Mainland high-end cosmetics brand Mao Geping Cosmetics Co Ltd has opened its first Hong Kong store in Tsim Sha Tsui, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy by leveraging the city's international market position.
Invest Hong Kong announced the opening on Thursday, with Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Arnold Lau welcoming the brand's arrival. "We are delighted to welcome Maogeping to Hong Kong, adding vitality to the city's retail and beauty industries," Lau said, noting that Hong Kong's business environment provides an excellent platform for mainland brands to go global.
Brand founder Mao Geping expressed his enthusiasm for the Hong Kong debut following the company's Hong Kong initial public offering last year. "Opening our first store in Hong Kong is a crucial step in the internationalization of the brand," he said, highlighting Hong Kong's robust legal and financial systems and government support for creative industries as ideal conditions for overseas business development.
The Hong Kong location will serve multiple functions beyond retail, including product development, brand promotion, and housing a professional makeup academy. Mao said the brand views Hong Kong as a strategic market to understand global consumer expectations for art and quality.
Founded in 2000 by makeup artist Mao Geping, the brand combines oriental cultural elements with contemporary aesthetics. It operates over 400 counters across more than 120 mainland cities and has collaborated with the Forbidden City Cultural and Creative Industries. The company also provided makeup services for major international events including the Beijing Olympics and the Chinese national team at the Paris Olympics.
