Baidu (9888) vice president Xie Guangjun yesterday apologized for his daughter's alleged misuse of private information online, following reports that she accessed and disclosed other people's data under his help.
The Chinese tech giant, however, denied that the related data in the doxxing incident came from its database.
Xie's 13-year-old daughter is said to have verbally abused a social media platform Weibo (9898) user who had criticized a post published by fans of South Korean singer Jang Won-young.
She allegedly posted the user's private information online, leading to harassment of their family and friends.
In a post on Tencent's (0700) WeChat, Xie said his daughter did so after "losing control during an argument online" and that he takes responsibility for failing to teach her the importance of privacy.
Earlier, when asked how she obtained private data, Xie's daughter reportedly said that she obtained it with the help of her parents.
Media reports said she was habitual doxxing offender within K-pop fan groups, sharing private information on more than 100 people. She is also said to have posted a screenshot of an online order under Xie's name and shared details about his employment.
