Hong Kong singer MC Cheung Tin-fu was named The Recommended Asian Artist of the Year at the 2026 TMElive International Music Awards (TIMA) on Saturday (Aug 22), appearing as the sole Hong Kong singer on the first day of the two-day event.
Cheung joked after receiving the award that he hoped fans would “keep recommending me”.
It marked Cheung’s third performance at Kai Tak Stadium, where he performed six songs in front of a packed audience. With the lineup featuring a strong presence of Korean acts, Cheung brought Hong Kong music to an international stage.
As one of Hong Kong’s popular singers, Cheung will take his “E=MC² Live 2026” to Malaysia on Nov 21, following five shows at the Hong Kong Coliseum in July.
The first day of the TIMA International Music Awards featured performances by major Asian acts including aespa, BABYMONSTER and SUPER JUNIOR.
aespa was among the night’s major winners, taking home six awards. The group also performed “LEMONADE”, “Supernova” and “Can't Help Myself”, while BABYMONSTER performed six songs, including “SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA” and “MOON”.
SUPER JUNIOR, which received The Most Influential International Group of the Year award, closed the show. Members Eunhyuk and Siwon greeted the Hong Kong audience in Cantonese, while Siwon said he had missed the city so much that he could not sleep.
Although some fans had left before their performance, SUPER JUNIOR quickly brought the atmosphere to a high with songs including “Wonder Boy” and “Sorry, Sorry”. Donghae took off his jacket as the performance heated up, while other members came down from the stage to interact with fans, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The group also said they missed Hong Kong, describing the city as a place filled with memories and thanking local fans for their continued support.
The 2026 TIMA International Music Awards, sponsored by CTF Life, was held at Kai Tak Stadium on Aug 22 and 23, bringing together 34 Chinese and international acts from different music scenes.
