Singaporean Mandopop icon JJ Lin (Wayne Lim Jun Jie) has seen his romance with a girlfriend more than 20 years his junior spark fresh controversy, after the woman was reportedly seen entering a Beijing police station amid online accusations that she fabricated her wealthy background.
According to mainland media, JJ Lin’s girlfriend — known online as Qiqi — was photographed wearing a black hooded jacket and attempting to conceal her face as she entered a police station in Beijing’s Haidian district, accompanied by an assistant. Police have not disclosed the reason for her visit, though netizens speculate it may be linked to growing online scrutiny over her personal background.
The controversy follows JJ Lin’s rare public disclosure of his private life. Last month, the 43-year-old singer shared a family photo on social media featuring his parents and Qiqi during his mother’s birthday celebration, effectively confirming their relationship.
“Love doesn’t need long speeches,” JJ wrote. “It is about standing by each other through sunshine and rain, offering the most genuine companionship.”
The relationship — reportedly marked by a 20-plus-year age gap — has divided public opinion, drawing reactions ranging from support to skepticism.
Following JJ Lin’s public confirmation of the relationship, Qiqi — a mainland influencer with around 200,000 followers — quickly became the subject of intense online scrutiny. She had been widely described as a second-generation rich, with rumors claiming her father was the owner of a listed company and that her family owned properties in cities such as Tokyo and New York.
However, individuals claiming to be her former university classmates later came forward online to dispute those claims, alleging that her affluent image was exaggerated or fabricated. Some netizens also accused her of reselling JJ Lin’s concert tickets in 2023, raising questions over whether she used personal connections for profit. More damaging rumors suggest her father may be serving a prison sentence overseas for financial offenses.
Qiqi has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
