Former Miss Hong Kong Toby Chan Ting-yan, 38, has confirmed that she has ended her eight-year relationship with 47-year-old businessman Benny Yeung Chun-yuen, owner of personal care and skincare products company Choi Fung Hong, bringing an end to years of marriage speculation.
Speaking at a public event last week, Chan said the couple had separated about three months ago due to differences in values and life outlook. She stressed that the breakup did not involve a third party and said the decision was made peacefully.
“We separated because of a better understanding,” Chan said, adding that marriage had never been an urgent plan for the couple. “We were not rushing into anything.”
Chan and Yeung began dating in 2017, and their relationship attracted widespread attention due to Yeung’s estimated wealth and Chan’s high-profile status in the entertainment industry. Sources close to Chan suggested that the relationship had long been strained by Yeung’s active social life and repeated rumors involving other women.
Yeung had previously been linked to several women in past years, including reports that he was introduced to actress Snow Suen Wai-suet by friends and later associated with a model, according to media reports.
Friends said Chan eventually chose to move on rather than continue waiting for the relationship to stabilize.
Following the split, Chan has reportedly moved out of the couple’s former luxury residence in Kau To Shan and is now living alone in a 500-square-foot flat in Wong Tai Sin. She has returned to a more independent lifestyle, driving herself to work and cutting back on spending.
Despite the breakup, Chan has appeared in good spirits at recent public appearances and remains focused on her career. She was recently spotted by East Week, sister publication of The Standard, leading a more low-key lifestyle. After attending an event, Chan was seen dining at a local cha chaan teng with colleagues before driving herself to TVB City in Tseung Kwan O to film the TV program Scoop (Dong Cheung Sai Mong).
During the Christmas period, Chan was also reported to have hosted a gathering with close friends at the Kau To Shan residence while Yeung was travelling overseas. Meanwhile, Yeung was said to have celebrated both Christmas and his birthday with family and friends, including hosting a private party at his residence.
