The original creator behind hit TV drama "The Queen of News" has revealed background details about the series as its sequel prepares to premiere on November 10.
Sonia Lo, who developed the concept for both seasons, made a rare public appearance at recent promotional events. The Shue Yan University journalism graduate with an MBA degree previously wrote for TV programs including "Scoop" and worked in brand revitalization at Tommy Li Design before transitioning to mall promotion roles at property developers Sino Group and Sun Hung Kai Properties.
Series producer Chung Shu-kai disclosed that the project originated as a film concept, with a single scene about journalistic ethics from episode eight serving as the starting point. He assigned the concept to the recently graduated Lo to develop into a full narrative.
Lo shared that she had initially hoped to become a news anchor herself to better understand newsroom operations and atmosphere for authenticity.
Interestingly, Lo revealed that the lead roles of "Man Je" and her male counterpart were originally intended for veteran actors Sheren Tang and Bowie Lam before producer Chung ultimately cast Charmaine Sheh, whose performance received widespread acclaim.
