English Premier League side Newcastle United is planning to spend its pre-season in Hong Kong, playing friendly fixtures at the brand new 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium.
Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reported on Thursday that the Magpies, after missing out on a place in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States, have turned their attention to a Far East tour, which includes friendlies at the Kai Tak Sports Park.
Sources said the friendlies could include a match up against Tottenham, yet Hope said “nothing has been finalised”.
The journalist also noted in his report that the Kai Tak Stadium was designed by Populous, the architects who are working on plans for Newcastle’s new training ground. He also spoke highly of the stadium’s design.
“The [Kai Tak] stadium is a truly stunning design and is part of the regeneration of an area that was once an airport site. Its first major event will involve music, not sport, with Coldplay playing to four sold-out audiences in April,” he wrote.
