HKIVE evacuated as ceiling fan catches fire

Teachers and students had to be evacuated on Monday morning after a fire ignited at a vocational school in Chai Wan.

At around 10.20 am today, the ceiling exhaust fan of a classroom on the 4th floor of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education Chai Wan teaching building short-circuited, with thick smoke billowing out of the classroom.

Firefighters were called to the scene, and a breathing apparatus team and a water jet were dispatched to put out the fire.

The fire was extinguished at about 10:43 am.

During the fire alarm, about 30 staff and students evacuated to the corridor on their own, and no one was injured.
