The 33-year-old female passenger and the 25-year-old male passenger arrived in Hong Kong yesterday (Fri) from Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand, respectively.
During clearance, officers found 24 bags of cannabis buds weighing about 12.9 kg and another 23 bags weighing about 9.4 kg inside their check-in suitcases respectively.
About 25 g of THC gummies were also seized from the suitcase of the male passenger.
The duo were subsequently arrested and customs said the investigation is ongoing.
“Customs will continue to apply a risk assessment approach and focus on selecting passengers from high-risk regions for clearance to combat transnational drug trafficking activities,” the agency said.
Customs warned that drug trafficking is a serious offense and the maximum penalty upon conviction carries a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
