Driver in flipflops arrested for drug possession after botched escape attempt

A driver in flipflops was subdued and arrested in Yau Ma Tei as he was caught hiding drugs in his car and attempted to run away from the police but tripped over on Saturday morning.

Police first intercepted the gray Volkswagen on east-bound Jordan Road in Yau Ma Tei around 10 am as they found the vehicle pulled over by the roadside opposite the West Kowloon bus terminus.

They approached the driver who seemed to be absentminded and seized a small amount of heroin and cannabis buds in his car.

It is understood that when police were arresting him, the driver in flipflops suddenly started to run away from the police towards Mong Kok along Hoi Wang Road.

Yet, he tripped over about 100 meters away and the officers running after him caught up with him.

The driver was then subdued and arrested for drug possession. He claimed he felt unwell and was sent to hospital for treatment.
