Five men arrested over triad-linked knife attack in Yau Ma Tei

Five men have been arrested over the past two days over an attack on Wednesday that saw a car sandwiched in Yau Ma Tei and a 40-year-old passenger slashed. 

The attack took place on Man Ying Street around 3 am on Wednesday. The passenger Leung was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and arrested for failing to produce his ID card. The driver Choi, 26, was also arrested for drug possession. 

After an in-depth investigation, Yau Tsim district anti-triad unit arrested five men aged 22 to 58 throughout the city for wounding, possessing offensive weapons, and using false documents on Thursday and Friday. 

All five are remanded in custody. 

Officers also found a private car that was suspectedly used by the assailants as the getaway car in Tuen Mun. 

Meanwhile, Choi has been granted bail and must report to the police in early May. 

Sources said Leung and Choi were members of triad gang Wo Shing Wo and the assailants were from Sun Yee On. It is understood that the attack stemmed from a grudge between the two sides over a confrontation at a Tsim Sha Tsui entertainment premise back in late March.
