Friday Beyond Spotlights - Nicholas Ho: Spearheading the Belt and Road Initiative

Hosted by Patrick Tsang, episode 4 of Season 3 features Mr Nicholas Ho, Commissioner for Belt and Road. Nicholas is not only a young, award-winning architect but also dedicated to public service and policy advocacy. Last year, he made the decision to step back from his role in his family firm and join the government’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

During the episode, Nicholas elaborates on the diversity and magnitude of the Belt and Road Initiative and its key achievements to date. As the world’s largest co-operation platform, the BRI, he says, is not limited to construction projects, but also extends to the two-way flow of capital, talents and innovation. To effectively pool the ideas and expertise of some 150 BRI participating countries, he believes we need a stronger people connectivity.

Hong Kong, he emphasizes, is uniquely placed to play the crucial roles of a super-connector and a value-adder, and many of our small and medium enterprises can participate in many bankable, market-driven, small-scale projects.

On a more personal level, Nicholas offers insights into how he maintains a work-life balance and shares his philosophies on being both a successful architect and the Commissioner of the BRI.
