Rosaryhill Secondary School posted a statement on Sunday refuting the misleading claims from the school sponsoring body that the enrolment and financial difficulties are the main reasons for the school closure plan in 2025.
The school sponsoring body of Rosaryhill School - a 64-year-old private school with kindergarten, primary, and secondary school departments - announced on Saturday (Sept 16) that its kindergarten and primary schools will be combined with Dalton School Hong Kong, while the secondary department will be abolished in the 2025/26 academic year, citing the declining number of the secondary students and the financial status.
However, the principal of the secondary school So Pui Ting released a statement denying the school sponsoring body Dominican Missions' claims.
So said that there has been an increasing number of students each year, with three classes of secondary one admission this year along with the senior secondary classes maintaining four classes each.
She added that there were no financial issues, as stated in the reasons for closing the secondary school department.
The school also criticized the hurriedness and inappropriate timing of the Dominican Dominican Missions' notice, stating that the principals only found out last Thursday (Sept 14) while the parent association was only informed yesterday, not even providing 24 hours to arrange for the parents to join in the discussion on the school's future.
The principal stated that she was worried that the timing of this notice could increase students' pressure and that secondary three students would not have a fair chance to choose their subject of choice, along with senior secondary students having their exams and employment negatively affected.
