Shau Kei Wan was one of the districts taking the hardest hit amid the downpour on Friday, with a landslip occurring early in the morning that saw giant boulders tumbling down a section of Yiu Hing Road.
The landslide occurred at around 4 am this morning on the section of Yiu Hing Road near Yiu Tung Estate. Some 50 meters of the road is completely covered with mud and rocks.
Rubble from the fallen rocks stood up to three meters high, with the largest rock’s size similar to a minivan.
A basketball court next to Yiu Hing House of the estate was also flooded with muddy water.
The police said they received reports of the landslide on Yiu Hing Road at 2.39 am today, which caused all traffic lanes to be shut off. The impacted area was measured to be 50 by 10 meters.
They also said that vehicles had been buried under a massive pile of debris with firefighters engaged in a search and rescue effort.
No imminent risk was found in the surrounding area, the force added.
