Two YouTubers in court for breaking into shuttered correctional institutions in Chi Ma Wan

Two YouTubers appeared in the West Kowloon Court on Tuesday as they face a count of trespassing upon property under public control for breaking into two now-defunct correctional institutions in Chi Ma Wan to shoot videos. 

The two defendants are Lam Lok-yee, 27, and Hansley Tam Da-hang, 26. They allegedly broke into Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution and Chi Sun Correctional Institution on Lantau Island on February 17. 

The duo needed not to enter a plea yet as they appeared before principal magistrate Peter Law Tak-chuen today. 

It was understood that they used drones for the filming, and all relevant videos on YouTube had already been deleted. 

The hearing was adjourned to October 24 and Lam and Tam were released on bail of HK$500. 

Both institutions were used to house refugees from Vietnam in the 70s. They were then transformed into Chi Ma Wan Correctional Institution and Chi Ma Wan Rehabilitation Center. The latter was changed into Chi Sun Correctional Institution in 2005. 

The two institutions were shuttered in 2010. 

Lam was a candidate in the 2019 District Councils elections. She represented Professional Power and ran in the Hoi Chun constituency. 

Although Lam had 1,350 votes, she still lost to Ivan Lai Wai-tong from Neo Democrats, who had 2,099 votes.
