Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki said on Monday that the Robin's Nest Country Park and the North Lantau Marine Park are set to be open next year.
Speaking at the kick-off ceremony of “Beautiful Hong Kong” - an initiative that highlights the beauty of the city's rich cultural heritage and natural ecology, Chan said the Robin's Nest Country Park will become Hong Kong's 25th country park while the North Lantau Marine Park will be the city’s eighth marine park.
He added that relevant works are expected to be completed next year.
Chan said the Robin's Nest Country Park will echo the adjacent Shenzhen Wutong Mountain Scenic Area to create a cross-border ecological corridor between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
The North Lantau Marine Park - adjacent to the national nature reserve for Chinese white dolphins in the Pearl River estuary, will become a crucial habitat for the mammal that connects both regions.
Meanwhile, the top official said the SAR government has been coordinating with Shenzhen authorities to develop the Northern Metropolis, which is abundant in natural resources, to create a metropolitan environment marked with "Urban-Rural Integration and Co-existence of Development and Conservation."
Chan said the SAR government has been committed to protecting the natural ecology for many years and hopes that all sectors can work together to become advocates of green culture, promoters of green tourism, and advocates of green education to shape a more beautiful Hong Kong.
