Tao, who earned the name “housewife killer” during his time in TVB, has ventured into the mainland market after leaving the company, making frequent appearances in different commercial events.
In a video that went viral online recently, Tao can be seen making an appearance at a mainland event, singing the Canto song “Turning earth upside-down”, a song originally sung by popular local actor and singer Andy Lau Tak-wah.
However, what made his performance special was not how good it was, but more like the opposite.
Netizens said he was “literally reading the Cantonese lyrics” out loud and teased him for his windshield wiper-style hand gestures on stage.
Other local stars also joined in on the fun and made parodies of it, including singer Poki Ng of Hong Kong boy band Error, who uploaded a video on Instagram on Monday pretending to be Tao.
“Here I present you my version of ‘Turning earth upside down’ after watching the video [Tao’s video] 100 times. The facial expression and my tone are on point.” Ng wrote.
