Upgrade in the works for Airport Express, but shuttle bus to be shut down

Self-service ticketing machines, seat availability information, and improved seats are a part of an upgrade being planned for the Airport Express by the operator MTR Corp in the third quarter.

But the Airport Express shuttle bus service will be shut down on June 30. The shuttle bus service has been suspended since  April 10, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The MTR Corp will also enable passengers to use the MTR Mobile to book taxis and get fare discounts for  airport-bound journey on te Airport Express.

Passengers will be able to use electronic payment including credit cards to buy  “AEL Single Journey ticket QR Code” at the MTR self-service ticket zone at Hong Kong International Airport, making travel to downtown areas more convenient for residents and tourists, the MTR Corp said.

While awaiting trains, passengers can check the seat availability on the passenger information display system and choose which position on the platform to wait for the train.

Seats and carpets will be refurbished. New seat covers featuring the blue and aquamarine AEL logos and a grey wave pattern will be paired with synthetic leather head rests.
