More than 5 million Lukfook Jewellery members’ personal details were made available for sale on dark web platforms for HK$195,000 worth of cryptocurrency following a suspected data breach of the jewelry chain.
It is understood that the leaked data includes members' names, dates of birth, addresses, HKID numbers, email addresses, account passwords, mobile numbers, and WeChat accounts. Both mainland and local customers are affected.
The hacker claims that the database contains information of 5 million members of the jewelry chain and is asking for 25,000 Tether tokens, equivalent to approximately HK$195,000.
When queried, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data said they have not received any reports regarding the data breach incident and will reach out to relevant organizations for information.
Lukfook Jewellery has yet to make any statements regarding the incident.
