Hong Kong audiences love informative videos related to local affairs, according to the top trending videos lists 2023 revealed by YouTube on Monday.
The video giant said local affairs and amateur profile stories caught Hongkongers’ attention this year, with the top trending video going to a complaint case on the shopfront extension of a flower shop on Yuen Ngai Street, which drew 2.25 million views since it published six months ago.
A documentary video about a single mother who works as a cement sand mortar worker on a construction site came in second place, followed by a video that filmed the students of a drug rehabilitation school sharing their learning progress and emotional journey, drawing over 1.8 million views.
YouTube added that as of June 2023, Hongkongers spent an average of more than 85 minutes searching for creative videos and music on the popular platform every day, which is 5 minutes more than the same period last year.
“The Do Show” - a YouTube channel launched by Carol “DoDo” Cheng Yu-ling - crowned both the “Top Creator” and “Top Breakout Creator” this year. The channel focuses on exclusive interviews with a star-studded guest lineup.
Local singers and music remained dominant on the Top 10 Music Videos chart, with Cantopop continuing to take the top 3 while three songs from Korea and Japan also made the list.
