Audiences flocked to cinemas over the Lunar New Year holiday, propelling Night King to a record-breaking first-week box office performance in Hong Kong.
According to figures released on Tuesday by Hong Kong Box Office Limited, the film — directed by Jack Ng Wai-Lun and starring Dayo Wong Tze-wah and Sammi Cheng Sau-man — grossed a combined HK$48,768,984 in Hong Kong and Macau from its release on Lunar New Year’s Day (February 17) through Sunday (February 23). Of that total, HK$45,890,399 came from Hong Kong alone.
The performance sets a new record for the highest first-week box office takings among Hong Kong and Chinese-language films in the city’s history.

The previous record was set earlier this January by Back to the Past, which posted HK$45,557,169 in its first week in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Box Office Limited said Night King is expected to continue its strong momentum and may set further records in the coming days.
