One for the road at $38,000

A female fan of boy band group Mirror spent HK$38,000 to bid for a "KEUNG T0" license plate for her idol yesterday.

The license plate, which is the same spelling of Keung To, a member of the boy band, was sold after more than 30 bids.

The base price was HK$5,000 at the Transport Department's Auction of Personalized Vehicle Registration Marks at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai yesterday.

The Ginger Candy - the name of the fans for Keung - could not hold back her smile after winning the bid, and said: "I will send the car plate to him as a present." The Cantopop star was spotted by netizens attending a driving course recently.

"KEUNG T0" was among 240 personalized car plates at yesterday's auction. Another car plate. "CR7 GOAT," which symbolizes Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, was sold at HK$5,000.

One of the car plates, "DM ME," sold for HK$120,000.

It is an abbreviation for a private "direct message" sent on social media.
