Why Chan can bank on his wife

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Eric Chan Kwok-ki, says his wife has benefited from the US sanctions on him as she oversees all his money and assets because he has no bank account now.

Chan has been sanctioned since 2020. He said yesterday that not holding a bank account would not affect him personally as he had no time for consumption and would not visit the US even if he was not sanctioned.

However, he said his daughter works as a lawyer, and the law firm is concerned that she may be sanctioned in the future and may be affected if she needs to work in the US.

Chan criticized the US government for being unreasonable in imposing the sanction, but reiterated that he had complete confidence working for Hong Kong and for the country.

Chan also said that his wife was the beneficiary of the sanction because his properties had been transferred to her name.
