The Park Lane Hong Kong goes beyond boundaries

The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel, has partnered up with Fu Hong Society and 13A New Street Gallery in a unique and inclusive art initiative - “Art Beyond Boundaries”, as part of its 50th-anniversary campaign.

Featuring over 31 pieces of artwork from local artists Fapopo and Sai Kit, the exhibition “Art Beyond Boundaries” will be held from January 10 to May 1 at the Ebb & Flow Lobby Lounge at The Park Lane Hong Kong.

The hotel said this exhibition stands as an affirmation of the hotel's enduring dedication to fostering community ties, celebrating cultural richness, and supporting the vibrant world of the arts.

Fapopo - Hong Kong version of Yayoi Kusama

Fapopo, meaning Grandma Flower in Cantonese, has an affinity for flowers since her youth, in which she used to support her family by selling them at the Flower Market in Mong Kok. Her upbringing has a lot to do with her creations, with lifelike flowers being the most iconic subject in her work, that followed by cleverly depicted lucky cats and people, among others.

With her vivid and colorful palette and highly distinctive artistic style, she extends her creative medium beyond flat surfaces or canvases to include various everyday objects such as frying pans and suitcases. Her exceptional personal style also enables her to depict the same subjects in different works.

This collision of art styles brings about a fresh and captivating viewing experience.

Sai Kit’s unique perspective of light and color

Sai Kit, a moderately intellectually disabled individual with tendencies of autism, express his unique interpretation of light and color through his artwork.

Harnessing the creative potential of spoon as his medium, Sai Kit finds inspiration in the ordinary beauty of his everyday surroundings. From the delicate petals of flowers to the bustling trams and graceful birds, he draws upon these elements to fuel his artistic vision.

Sai Kit's visual art creations are characterized by their bold brushstrokes and audacious colors, which consistently defy traditional norms of time, space, and color. He fearlessly pushes the boundaries and transcends the conventional, resulting in captivating and thought-provoking works of art.

For this exhibition, the two artists collaborated on a series of artworks. Fapopo's signature flowers, with their rich colors, bring vibrancy to the overall compositions. In addition, Sai Kit adds locally inspired buildings and transportations to the paintings, adding a touch of uniqueness and a sense of Hong Kong's local sentiment.

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase these art pieces as well as the cookies from Madam Hong’s Bakery from Fu Hong Society at the exhibition venue throughout the exhibition period. All sales profit will be donated to the Fu Hong Society to support their work in promoting inclusion and enhancing the well-being of individuals with disabilities.
