Buffet boss has a beef with takeaway act

A Japanese buffet chain boss called on customers not to steal meat after a woman was seen putting raw beef into a food bag then placing it in a thermal bag to take home.

Writing on Facebook yesterday, Simon Wong Kit-lung, chairman of catering chain LH Group, the parent company of grilled meat buffet chain Gyu-Kaku, said he heard from a customer who witnessed the woman putting the raw beef into the bag.

"For those who would bring a thermal bag to steal raw meat on the sly while having a buffet I would like to remind you that it is a theft," he said.

"Our mums teach us this is incorrect," Wong added, though he believed most Hongkongers are considerate.

Netizens also expressed their views under the post. Some joked Wong should have felt fortunate that the woman didn't steal more food from the restaurant, with one raising food safety concerns about the stolen beef.

But Wong replied: "She brought a thermal bag, so I suppose she has basic food safety knowledge."
