Meg 2 sees Jason Statham goes underwater to battle biggest Meg anyone has ever seen

Following the surprise success of 2018's The Meg, which follows a group of scientists as they encounter a massive Megalodon shark while on a mission in the Mariana Trench, a sequel was announced soon after the film's release.

But this time, lead actor Jason Statham comes face to face with not one, not two, but three deep sea-dwelling prehistoric sharks, along with some giant creature with a bunch of tentacles, as revealed in the official trailer for “Meg 2: The Trench.”

The new footage unveils Statham teaming up with Wu Jing, a massive star in China who has starred in blockbusters such as “The Wandering Earth,” “Wolf Warrior” and “The Battle at Lake Changjin.”

The pair lead an underwater journey to the bottom of the ocean to investigate new creatures, before taking on the shark trio at a tourist destination at sea level. Of course, plenty of folks end up in the jaws.

Apart from Statham, the Meg 2 cast features returning members such as Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, and Page Kennedy, while also boasting some new blood inclugin Wu Jing, Skyler Samuels, Sienna Guillory, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta.

Meg 2: The Trench, splashes into theaters on August 3.
