Woman prosecuted for dangerous driving after letting child sit on her lap at the wheel

A 37-year-old local woman has been prosecuted on Monday for dangerous driving after she was caught on video allowing a young boy to sit on her lap while she was operating a moving vehicle. 

The incident involved an electric private car displaying both mainland China and Hong Kong license plates, traveling along Ngong Hom Road near Kin Shue House in Lei Muk Shue Estate. 

Police took action today, following an investigation into the alarming footage.

Officers from the New Territories South regional traffic department initiated the probe after spotting the clip circulating online. 

The footage captured the female driver navigating the road with the toddler resting on her thighs on the afternoon of August 21, a reckless act that posed a significant risk to safety. 

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The driver is now facing charges under Section 37 of the Road Traffic Ordinance. 

Law enforcement authorities reiterated that dangerous driving is a severe traffic offense that jeopardizes the safety of all road users. 

Offenders face heavy penalties, including a maximum of three years in prison, a fine of up to twenty-five thousand dollars, and a driving ban of at least six months. 

The police emphasized their ongoing commitment to strict enforcement across all districts to maintain smooth traffic flow, protect the public, and raise general road safety awareness among motorists.
