Burst salt water pipe on Tsuen Wan's Yeung Uk Road forces multiple bus route diversions

A burst salt water pipe on Yeung Uk Road in Tsuen Wan flooded at least two traffic lanes on Monday night, forcing a nearby petrol station to suspend operations, authorities said.

The 900mm diameter pipe burst around 8pm near 171 Yeung Uk Road, sending muddy water gushing out and causing some sections of the road surface to buckle. Online images showed the road transformed into a "yellow river" with water ankle-deep.

The pipe supplies flushing water to Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung areas. The Water Supplies Department sent staff to the scene and turned off the water supply, stopping the flow. Engineering teams are conducting water supply adjustments and expect to restore flushing water to most users by 5am on Tuesday. Pipe repair work is expected to be completed by 9pm on Tuesday.

The eastbound section of Yeung Uk Road between Luen Yan Street and Texaco Road is temporarily closed. Several KMB bus routes have been diverted.
