The Housing Department (HD) has mandated all its contractors to conduct safety inspections of crane installations across all construction sites, following a recent fatal crane collapse at the Tai Wo Hau Road Phase 2 public housing development.
The mandatory checks will strictly adhere to legal requirements to ensure the safe operation of heavy machinery, the HD stated.
The inspections are expected to be completed within a short timeframe by qualified registered professionals and registered professional engineers.
Meanwhile, the authorities confirmed that the contractor involved in the accident, which claimed the life of a male crane operator, is Woon Lee Construction Co. Ltd.
The company is currently managing five new works contracts for the department, including the site of the incident.
The Labour Department has issued a temporary suspension notice and is actively investigating the cause of the fatal accident. Consequently, there is currently no timetable for the resumption of construction.
The HD emphasized that it is closely coordinating with all relevant government bureaus to address the situation.
