A seven-seater vehicle caught fire while travelling along the Kwun Tong Bypass towards Mong Kok on Thursday evening (Mar 19), forcing the driver to flee.

The incident occurred at around 5.53pm near the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, when smoke was seen coming from the front of the vehicle before it burst into flames. The driver abandoned the car and escaped to safety as the vehicle was quickly engulfed in fire. Firefighters later arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.
The driver reportedly felt unwell and lost consciousness after reaching a safe location, and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
The Transport Department said some lanes on the Kwun Tong Bypass towards Mong Kok near Kwun Tong Ferry Pier were closed due to the incident. Motorists were advised to use the remaining lanes, with traffic in the area reported to be heavy.
