A Filipino man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly attempting to use counterfeit HK$500 notes at a money exchange shop in Central, police said.
Officers received a report around noon from staff at a shop on Des Voeux Road Central that a man had requested to transfer about HK$6,000 to an account, but three of the notes were suspected to be counterfeit.
Police arrived and found three suspected fake HK$500 notes on the passport-carrying Filipino man. He was arrested on suspicion of "uttering forged bank notes" and is being detained for investigation.
The case is being handled by the Central district criminal investigation team.
