A burst water pipe caused a road collapse in Tsuen Wan on Wednesday afternoon, trapping a crane truck and forcing overnight repairs and water supply suspension.
The incident on Heung Sing Street occurred around 4.30pm. The parked crane truck's front wheel sank into a hole, with its front nearly touching the road surface. Police cordoned off the area.
Another crane truck arrived around 9pm to rescue the vehicle, revealing a hole roughly 30 by 30 centimeters. Water Supplies Department (WSD) workers then prepared machinery to enclose the site for repairs.
Water supply to buildings on Heung Wo Street (Nos. 1-41), Sha Tsui Road (Nos. 102-144), and the entire Heung Sing Street will be suspended from 11.30pm on Wednesday for emergency repairs, expected to finish around 6.30am on Thursday. The WSD will set up water tanks for affected residents.
Preliminary investigations suggest the collapse was caused by a leak in a 100-millimeter diameter fresh water pipe. The WSD planned repairs after the evening usage peak to minimize disruption. The road is temporarily closed, and drivers are advised to use alternative routes. The department apologized for the inconvenience.
