Hong Kong welcomed 2026 with the "Immersive Light Show in Central" projected on eight landmark buildings after the traditional fireworks were cancelled following the Wang Fuk Court fire.

As midnight struck, the exteriors of buildings including the City Hall High Block, Hong Kong Club Building, Prince's Building and Court of Final Appeal displayed giant countdown clocks and light patterns. The crowd on Chater Road cheered and took photos.
Chief Executive John Lee, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law and Hong Kong Tourism Board Chairman Peter Lam held a giant heart prop to launch the countdown earlier.

International duo Air Supply performed classics including "Lost in Love" and "All Out of Love." Local singers Jay Fung and Cloud Wan also performed.
With large crowds, MTR closed some Central station exits for crowd control. The Tourism Board urged people to watch the live projection at the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Centre or online if the Central area was full.
