Kowloon West traffic police arrested five people and impounded 11 cars during a five-day holiday operation targeting traffic offences and illegal racing.
The regional traffic enforcement and control unit conducted the operation from December 24 to 28, focusing on drink driving, drug driving, illegal racing, speeding and illegal vehicle modifications.
Four local men and one local woman, aged 33 to 46, were arrested on suspicion of trafficking dangerous drugs, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without third-party insurance and being wanted persons.
Using unmarked cars, officers patrolled expressways including Tai Po Road, Lung Cheung Road, Ching Cheung Road, West Kowloon Highway and West Kowloon Corridor to target illegal racing and speeding.

The 11 impounded cars had suspected illegal modifications such as altered exhaust pipes, protruding rear spoilers, modified steering wheels and cracked windshields, violating road traffic regulations. They were taken to Kowlo Bay Vehicle Detention Centre for further inspection. Twelve vehicle defect notices were also issued.
Digital radar at multiple locations detected 49 vehicles speeding, with summonses to be issued. Police said they will continue strict enforcement to ensure road safety.
