The man was detained for violating the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance and has been released on bail pending further investigation by the Airport District Criminal Investigation Team.
Authorities noted that some travelers attempt to carry prohibited items such as telescopic batons or pepper spray when departing from Hong Kong for various reasons.
However, they warned that carrying any prohibited items onto an aircraft, whether in checked or carry-on luggage, is illegal. Those convicted could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
