A taxi was filmed brazenly turning around and driving against traffic just before the Kai Tak Stadium tunnel entrance on the Yau Ma Tei section of the Central Kowloon Route on its first working day, triggering widespread online outrage.
The incident happened around 11am as the taxi descended from Kai Tak Interchange via Shing Kai Road or Kai Cheung Road.
It suddenly slowed, executed a U-turn onto Shing Cheong Road, and drove the wrong way along the shoulder with hazard lights flashing but without reducing speed.
Following cars immediately braked to keep a distance from the taxi.
According to another witness at the scene, the taxi drove against traffic along the road shoulder; its hazard warning lights were lit, but it showed no signs of slowing down.
Fortunately, passing heavy vehicles managed to avoid it; however, as the taxi disappeared from view, it is unknown how it ended.
The video quickly went viral, with netizens slamming the driver as the first to go against traffic on the new route and calling for his license to be revoked for reckless behavior.
