Hong Kong welcomed a peak of 235,586 visitors on Saturday as the city is gearing up for the festive Christmas season, according to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, the bureau noted that the city recorded 187,699 mainland visitors, marking the highest number since the National Day Golden Week.
Non-mainland visitors totaled 47,887, a new annual high and the second highest since the pandemic.
This surge in arrivals underscores Hong Kong’s appeal as a favored destination for travelers, whether visiting friends and family or enjoying holiday tourism, the bureau said.
It also highlighted the arrival of two international cruises, Spectrum of the Seas and Costa Serena, at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal on Friday, which further enhanced the vibrant waterfront atmosphere.
The bureau noted that a series of exciting events is taking place across the city during the Christmas holidays. In addition to the Winter Wonderland and Immersive Light Show in Central, the West Kowloon Cultural District also hosts family-friendly activities such as Merry Balloon Hong Kong and WestK Christmas Town.
These events, along with the decorative light displays and themed decorations in shopping malls and various markets, provide diverse photo opportunities and family experiences for both residents and visitors.
