Hong Kong athletes won a total of 140 medals at the recently concluded National Games for Persons with Disabilities, with the city's sports chief declaring the territory has successfully passed the "big test" of hosting major sporting events.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law announced the team secured 51 gold, 49 silver and 40 bronze medals across 28 events. She noted that calculated on a per capita basis, this performance likely ranks among the nation's best.
In a social media post on Monday, Law congratulated the athletes on their achievements and said they should feel proud. She highlighted that Hong Kong, jointly with Guangdong and Macau, hosted both the National Games and the National Games for Persons with Disabilities – the country's highest-level comprehensive sports events.
Law stated the city had "passed the examination of hosting large-scale sports events" with distinction, providing unforgettable experiences for both athletes and spectators while generating strong momentum for Hong Kong's sports development.
Acknowledging the complexity of organizing such events with Hong Kong's limited experience, she thanked the General Administration of Sport of China for its guidance and support. Law also expressed gratitude to Head of National Games Coordination Office Yeung Tak- keung and all staff and volunteers for their efforts in helping athletes perform at their best and providing optimal viewing experiences.
With all competitions concluded smoothly, Law said the shared experience would form an important foundation for future cooperation and strengthened relationships.
