An 80-year-old woman was pinned between a taxi and roadside railings in Cheung Sha Wan Thursday afternoon after the cab suddenly veered off Castle Peak Road, leaving her with foot injuries and the 63-year-old driver under arrest.
The accident occurred around 2.15pm while the driver was traveling along Castle Peak Road near Fat Tseung Street, where the taxi suddenly swerved towards the railings on the left side of the road.
The elderly woman, surnamed Cheung, had been standing on the pavement outside the railings, waiting to cross the street. She could not avoid the collision and was left trapped.
Firefighters quickly cut away part of the railing to free her. She remained conscious throughout and was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
Following a preliminary investigation, police arrested the 63-year-old male taxi driver, surnamed Leung, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.
He is currently detained for further investigation.
