Driver arrested after fleeing Mong Kok checkpoint, drugs and stolen van found

A minivan driver was arrested in Mong Kok early Monday after abandoning his vehicle and fleeing a police checkpoint, with officers subsequently discovering suspected drugs and evidence of car theft.

Police had established a vehicle checkpoint near the Lai Chi Kok Road substation around 2am when the driver stopped his minivan, exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. Officers pursued and subdued the suspect.

Approximately 20 suspected etomidate e-cigarette cartridges were recovered at the scene. Further investigation revealed the man was driving a stolen vehicle while disqualified from driving.

The suspect was arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs, vehicle theft and multiple traffic offenses. A narcotics detection dog was deployed to assist the operation but no additional contraband was located.
