(Video) Elderly woman wielding cutter knife subdued by police in Wan Chai

A 70-year-old woman was arrested after waving a cutter knife on a Wan Chai street on Thursday afternoon, with police officers eventually subduing her in an incident captured on video.

The incident began around 2pm when police responded to a report from a grocery store employee on Stone Nullah Lane who suspected the woman of shoplifting. Officers determined the situation was a misunderstanding after investigation.

When police asked the woman for identification outside 138 Johnston Road, she suddenly produced a approximately 15-centimeter cutter knife. Five officers surrounded the woman, with one officer managing to disarm her during the confrontation before she was handcuffed.

The surnamed Tsang woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and remains in custody. The case has been transferred to the Wan Chai district crime squad.

No injuries or property damage were reported during the incident. The woman reportedly has a history of mental health issues.
