A fatal industrial accident took place this evening in Victoria Harbour, near Wan Chai, resulting in one worker's death.
According to initial reports, a worker assisting in mooring a large vessel lost his balance and fell into the sea. Despite the swift response from his colleagues, who managed to pull him from the water, the worker was found unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The incident happened close to the Great Eagle Centre at around 7pm. Paramedics transported the victim to Central Pier 10, where he was found unresponsive and was rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital.
Video footage from the scene shows calm waters at the time of the accident. The victim and two colleagues, all equipped with life jackets and helmets, had been working to secure the vessel's anchor chain to a mooring buoy.
One of the workers suddenly fell, inadvertently pulling the victim into the water. Colleagues attempted to rescue him, and the victim made efforts to cling to the buoy, but the attempts were ultimately unsuccessful.
