Hong Kong's two power companies will lower electricity charges for customers next year, with CLP Power reducing tariffs by 2.6 percent and HK Electric by 2.2 percent.
Effective from January 1, the Average Net Tariff for CLP customers will be HK$140.6 cents per unit of electricity -- HK$3.7 cents lower per unit compared to 2025.
It noted that in face of rising operating costs, the Average Basic Tariff will see an increase to HK$101.2 cents per unit of electricity. However, attributed to the easing and stabilizing international fuel prices, the Fuel Cost Adjustment will be reduced by HK$6.9 cents to HK$39.4 cents per unit of electricity.
As for HK Electric, the Average Net Tariff starting January will be 163.3 cents per unit of electricity, a reduction of 2.2 percent compared to 2025.
It noted that the Basic Tariff for next year will see an increase of 4.1 percent, but the Fuel Clause Charge for January 2025 will decrease by 8.7 cents.
For a family of three, the new tariffs are estimated to pay HK$10 less per month.
